Currently, there are two individuals across the state of South Dakota to assist you with any 4-H CHARACTER COUNTS! questions, resources, arrangement of trainings and workshops, etc., you may have.  Do not hesitate to contact a CC! Coordinator.





Karelyn Farrand-Statewide & North CC! Coordinator

Karelyn Farrand is currently serving a dual role as Statewide CC! Coordinator and Regional CC! Coordinator-North, for the South Dakota State University Cooperative Extension Service, Youth Development/4-H.  She graduated from South Dakota State University with a BS in Home Economics Education.  In 1999, Karelyn was nationally trained by the Josephson Institute of Ethics in CHARACTER COUNTS! which is a national character education project founded by Michael Josephson.  A native of South Dakota, Karelyn has worked for SDSU as an Extension Educator, for the Department of Health, for the South Dakota Wheat Commission, and has owned and operated a home-based business.  Her career goal has always been to help the people of her state better themselves by providing quality, timely information to make the best better.  Karelyn travels 23 counties in north central South Dakota teaching and training youth and adults about CHARACTER COUNTS!  The main goal of Karelyn's job is to develop CHARACTER COUNTS! Coalitions and to educate people how to become a person of character.

Carol Hettinger - South & West Region CC! Coordina

Carol Hettinger has been the 4-H CHARACTER COUNTS! Coordinator for the South Region since October of 2004.  She assumed the duties of Coordinator of West Region in December 2008.  She has been a certified CHARACTER COUNTS! Trainer since April of 2005 when she attended a Character Development Seminar with the Josephson Institute in Los Angeles.  Hettinger received her BS in Elementary Education from Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN in 1983.  From 1983 to 2004, she taught elementary school at every grade level in public and private schools in and around Mitchell, SD.
