Trips and Scholarships

Several trips are awarded during the calendar year beginning with Western 4-H Roundup (Jan,), National 4-H Conference (Mar.), National 4-H Shooting Sports (June), Citizenship: Washington Focus (June), World Dairy Expo (Sept.), National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest (Nov.), and National 4-H Congress (Nov.). For additional information, please contact your County Extension Office or the State 4-H Office.

4-H Performing Arts Troupe

The South Dakota Performing Arts Troupe is a theater arts educational experience for youth between the ages of 13 and 19. Each summer a seven-day preparation camp is held which prepares the youth to perform during the week of the camp, summer venues, and at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron. The 2008 camp will be held from June 15-21. The 2008 Brochure and Registration forms are below.

CHARACTER COUNTS! 4-H Public Speaking Contest

4-H CHARACTER COUNTS PUBLIC SPEAKING CONTEST

The fifth annual 4-H CHARACTER COUNTS! Public Speaking Contest will be held on August 6th at the Sioux Empire Fair. This competition is open to 4-H members across South Dakota (Juniors  Ages 8-13 and Seniors  Ages 14-19).

Prizes for this competition, sponsored by First PREMIER Bank/ PREMIER Bankcard, are very generous. In the senior division, the first place winner will receive a $1000 scholarship and the 2nd place winner will receive a $500 scholarship. In the junior division, the first place winner will receive a $500 savings bond and the second place winner will receive a $250 savings bond. Every participant will receive 5 gate passes to the Sioux Empire Fair, 5 lunch tickets, and $20.00 cash. . In addition to the financial rewards of this opportunity, the 4-Hers will be able to spend a fun day at the fair and practice and refine their public speaking skills.

4-Hers can choose one of the following topics for their speech:

  • Use a 4-H project area and tell how CC! fits into it.
  • Use a current event and tell how CC! fits into it.
  • Use a personal experience and tell how CC! fits into it.
